Honestly, I'm not sure "portrait studio" is quite the right category for what happens here.

My path to this work wasn't linear - biologist, nearly a decade at Big Four CPA firms, and then finally, portrait photography, the work that felt like home. That background shaped how I approach everything: with analytical precision, genuine curiosity, and an almost stubborn commitment to understanding the person in front of me before I ever pick up a camera.

A woman realizes she's been taking care of everyone else her entire life, and this one thing she's doing for herself feels fragile in a way she didn't expect. People she loves don't quite understand why it matters to her. And she's on the edge of talking herself out of it.

Those conversations are part of what I do. Not as a side note, but as the foundation. Because I can't build a session around who she is until I actually know who she is.

Clients have told me I'm better than their therapist. That I'm "not just a photographer." One asked if I was sure I wasn't a psychologist. I take that as the highest compliment, even as I'm clear that what I do is something different entirely: I help women arrive at themselves, often for the first time, and then I document what I find.

Here's what still surprises me, even after years of doing this work: a woman will have already seen my other clients' portraits. She'll have experienced her own session - hours of slowly, beautifully finding herself in front of the camera, catching glimpses on the back of my camera as we go. And then she comes to her Reveal. She sees her finished portraits for the first time. And she says that she didn't think she would look that beautiful.

Not "I didn't think portraits could look this good." She knows they can.
